DIY Bride Part III: Cake Toppers

In a fit of DIY inspiration, I decided to make my own cake toppers out of paper mache.  I vaguely remember making paper mache piñatas out of balloons as a kid and figured it couldn't be that hard.  The goal was to make these two guys, our traveling avatars Hammie and Freddie.

Hammie's pretty much just round with appendages hanging out of her, but Freddie's got some interesting bumps that made it tricky.

The first time I made Freddie, his eyes were too far apart, and he just didn't look right.  I cut off the eyes and tried again.  This is the closest I'll come, but sadly I don't think it's good enough.  Freddie looks like a deformed version of himself.
Since the real Hammie and Freddie are pretty much the size of cake toppers, I've decided to just use them.  I'll have to put them on a pedestal of some sort above the top layer of the cake and make sure they don't fall into the cake.  Luckily, Flora-dec sells those types of supplies.

Hopefully this will work out well.  If it doesn't work out in the end, I guess I'll just try to patch the holes from the pedestals and stick wildflowers in the cake.
